Since we spend way more time than we ever thought we would, standing amongst piles of clothes in the laundry room, why not give the space a fresh look… and a system. In our mother’s (or grandmother’s) day the laundry “room” as either poorly placed in a dingy basement or hidden behind a pair of doors that would open to reveal its disheveled-ness.

That was then and this is now. So stop swooning over the Pintrest laundry rooms and make yours as functional as you’ve always wished it was.

A Clothes Rack

How many times have you hung a load of laundry on hangers and gently draped it across the cabinet top, hoping it wouldn’t wrinkle? And guess what? It always does. End the madness with a clothes rack. Depending on how you hang you pants this particular rack pictured above may or may not meet all of your needs, but remember that you have a limited amount of space that you want to maximize upon.

Lots of Counter Space

Can you ever have too much counter space? We don’t think so; especially in the laundry room. The more counter space you have the better organized your weekly (daily?) chore will be.

Storage, Storage, Storage

Storage is a must in the laundry room. Without it the room will constantly look like a tornado came through it. Storage doesn’t always have to be in the form of expensive cabinetry. Baskets are an inexpensive substitute. You can either add woven baskets or less expensive plastic stackable baskets.

A Sink

Lastly, your laundry room needs a sink- desperately! Adding a sink to your laundry room not only helps simplify your stain spot scrubbing and hand washing, it also adds value to your home. In fact, giving your drab laundry room all of these upgrades will add to your home’s value.
